The North Buncombe Blackhawk Band is proud to represent our community through music, discipline, and teamwork. Comprised of hardworking and talented students, the band plays an essential role in school and community events—from high school football games to the Weaverville Holiday Parade and the North Buncombe High School Homecoming Parade.
Despite the challenges brought by Hurricane Helene, our band came together to persevere and excel, earning the title of 2024 Grand Champions, 2025 MPA Superior rating, and 2026 Grand Champions. These achievements are a testament to the dedication and resilience of our students.
Behind this outstanding group is a dedicated team of volunteers—the North Buncombe Band Boosters. Our mission is to support the band director, help ensure student safety at all events, and provide the financial resources needed to sustain and grow the band program.
Currently, less than 50% of our annual budget is covered by individual student fees. To cover the rest, we work hard throughout the year to organize fundraisers that bring our community together while supporting a cause that benefits our youth. Some of our key fundraising events include
- Car washes
- Band-a-thon
- Community BBQ & concert
- Concessions at North Buncombe High School basketball games
These events help fund critical needs such as music licensing, instruments, competition fees, travel expenses, props, instructional clinics, and scholarships for students who may need financial support.
Each year, it takes over $60,000 to operate the full band program, which includes the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Woodwind Ensemble, Indoor Percussion, Color Guard, Winter Guard, and Indoor Percussion. With your help, we can keep fees reasonable and ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate fully in our program, regardless of financial background.
This year, the Marching Blackhawks will continue to grow in confidence and musicality by competing against other bands and performing at football games, school functions, and community events. These experiences teach students valuable life skills—teamwork, leadership, and commitment—that will serve them far beyond the field or stage.
The North Buncombe Band Program invites you to support us through this donation event. Your generosity makes a lasting impact. All tax-deductible donations help support band activities. We thank you for being part of the Blackhawk Band community!
